Although the weather was generally good for most of our tour, the day trip to Edinburgh
was extremely wet. So much so, that our visit to the Royal Botanic Garden
was pretty much restricted to the tropical glass houses.
Since one of my classes at Tidewater Community College focused on Plants and Society,
I was particularly interested in the display containing several tables of tropical
plant products for food, medicine, and other social applications.
The varieties ranged from some common plants that we all have had had in our homes
(e.g., Spathithyllum), to exotics that you will only see in the wild or
at a major centre such as this.
