Houghall Community College

While walking from the Durham city centre to Poplar Tree Garden Centre, we came across a sign with directional arrows to Houghall Plant Centre. We decided to take a short detour and check it out.
Following the narrow road led us to a display area and greenhouse of the Horticulture Department of the East Durham and Houghall Community College.
The instructors were gracious in allowing us to tour their working greenhouses, take photos, and providing us with brochures on their studies. Many of the
classes were similar to courses found at the Tidewater Community College that I
have attended.
To raise money for the horticulture department so that it can be profitable and
put money back into the program, the students sell Poinsettias, cyclamen grown in their greenhouses, and Christmas trees. In May they sell summer annuals.
